‘Afróntalo’ Art Exhibition at Cal State San Bernardino Anthropology Museum. Celebrating the rich history and expansive cultures of Afro descendants in the Americas. 14 artists were commissioned to create portrait paintings of Afro descendants of the SoCal community.
‘Afróntalo’ in Spanish means 'Face It’. This reflects the intention of our exhibition to recognize the erasure of Afrodescendants and the prevalence of anti-blackness in the Americas.
My painting of “Blooming Unity” is a portrait of Wendy, an Afro Honduran and Mexican artist & poet , born and raised in Southern California. She speaks of her experience of embracing her identity of being an Afro Latina and discusses the colorism & racism in Latin America.
Thank you CSU San Bernardino for giving me this opportunity to showcase my talent to uplift Afro Latine culture and beauty. This means everything to my family and I to meet other Afro descendants in the community and to view the expansive history of Afro Latine culture.
The exhibition will be open to view from September 2023 to June 2024.
